Delivered: 138 patients, randomized at 6 sites in Sweden and 11 sites in Poland during 7 months.

The A+ Science recruitment group was asked to help in the recruitment of diabetes patients for a phase III study, which would partly take place in Sweden. During protocol and patient feasibility, an opportunity to take on an expanded recruitment task in both Sweden and Poland was identified. More than 40 % of the subjects were recruited in Sweden and Poland, while the other nine countries involved recruited the rest.

The extra recruitment effort in Sweden and Poland made it possible to reduce the number of countries and sites overall. Since transparent progress reports with projected number of randomized patients were delivered to the sponsor from week one, the sponsor could concentrate internal work to secure 220 randomized in other countries, still being in control of the overall goal of 360.

Patients were recruited using mass-media campaign and the A+ Science volunteer database in Sweden. In Poland, patient databases at the sites together with an extensive referral site network were used. The site network was dimensioned and set up based on the protocol and patient feasibility performed for Poland.
